What you don’t want to have won’t get you what you want.

Working as a fitness consultant requires me to figure out what my clients’ fitness goals are and then to help achieve them.  Often times I sit with someone and ask them what their goals are and I get a response like, “Well, I don’t want to get as big as you.”  And by “you” they mean ME.  They’re so polite.  Other things I get are, “I don’t want to get too skinny.”  “I don’t want these extra love handles,”  “I don’t want to look manly,” blah, blah, blah

You know what the problem is when people have this way of thinking?  They don’t get what they want.  How could they when it’s not even on their mind?  I ask what they want, and they say what they don’t want.  I tell them they didn’t answer the question, and I ask them again… and sometimes again after that.   Then I get something like “OH, I never thought of it like that.”

This is something you may want to ask yourself right now, because if you walk into the gym day after day, week after week, month after month, and you don’t know what you want, you’re probably going to keep getting something like those love handle you didn’t want a year ago.

This message goes out to trainers as well, who may not be  on the same page as your clients.  You too may be highly enrolled in all the things your client doesn’t want.  It’s like someone sitting in a restaurant, telling the waiter everything they don’t want to eat, and then expecting a perfect meal to show up.  It just won’t happen.

Ask yourself what you want to see in the mirror when you get out of bed in the morning.  Forget about what you think is possible and allow yourself to actually desire something.  Say you want a six pack, a nice sculpted chest, a firm butt, toned legs!  As soon as you get that vision, start working towards it.  You may surprise yourself at how much faster your results begin to show up.
